when I first went to art college I was fortunate to attend a lecture by Ken Garland a prolific designer who made his name in the sixties working on a great many large corporate identities but who also used his talent to support his beliefs, he was involved in the CND movement (campaign for nuclear disarmement) he was one of the people who most inspired me to become a designer, I discovered to my surprise that he is still working and you can visit his site here
he is largely unknown outside the UK but the early sixties stuff reminds me of Total Design work in the same era…
